Web Usability

The term "Web Usability" is used to refer to how effective your web site is for your visitors. This is an additional service we offer, testing the ease with which users can use and navigate your web site.
We will provide you a dataset based on those statistics that will reveal what pages the members of the focus group visited, for how long, and where they went next.
This will demonstrate the possible paths your prospective customers may take and will help us establish whether we have achieved the desired traffic flow for your website.

Web Design and Usability Tips

Web Usability

1. Motivate

Design your web site to meet specific user needs and goals. Use motivators to draw different user "personae" into specific parts of your site.

2. User taskflow

Who are your users? What are their tasks and online environment? For a web site to be usable, page flow must match workflow.

3. Architecture - it's 80% of usability

Build an efficient navigational structure. Remember: if they can not find it in three 3 clicks, they are gone.

4. Affordance means obvious

Make controls understandable. Avoid confusion between emblems, banners, and buttons.

5. Replicate

Why reinvent the wheel? Use the same layout and colours for all the pages

6. Usability test along the way

Test users with low fidelity prototypes early in design. Don't wait until the end when it's too late.

7. Know the technology limitations

Identify and optimise for target browsers and user hardware.
Test HTML, JavaScript, etc for compatibility.

8. Know user tolerances

Web users are impatient. Design for a 8.6 second maximum download. Usability studies have shown that 8.6 seconds is the maximum time web users will wait for a page to download.
Reuse header graphics so they can load from cache. Avoid excessive scrolling.

9. Multimedia - be discriminating

Good animation attracts attention to specific information, then stops. Too much movement distracts reading and slows comprehension.

10. Use a statistics package

Monitor traffic through your site. Which pages pique user interest? Which pages make users leave? Adjust your site accordingly.

If your site meets the above criteria, then your site has already reached a very high ranking. If not, please contact us. We will be pleased to help you reach your goal.
